What Types of Risk are You Taking in the 2nd Half Of Life - Career Pivot

What Types of Risk are You Taking in the second Half Of Life - Career Pivot What Types of Risk would you say you are Taking? In the What's Next Mastermind bunch inside the Career Pivot Community, we have been talking about different sorts of dangers and our eagerness to take them. One of the patterns I am seeing is that as we arrive at our 60s, a few of us are happy to face increasingly estimated challenge. We understand on the off chance that we don't face a few challenges now, at that point we will pass up significant educational encounters. In my last post, Perceived And Real Risks in the second Half Of Life, I composed that our impression of hazard is some of the time messed up with the real world. This is especially evident when we are youthful. As we as a whole know, youngsters or adolescents can show exceptionally unsafe conduct. I know I sure did and kept on doing this into my mid 30s. What kinds of hazard would you say you will take in the second 50% of life? It is safe to say that they are not the same as when you were more youthful? Outlook Much relies upon our outlook. So what is a mentality? I found the accompanying definition on VeryWellMind.com: An outlook alludes to whether you accept characteristics such asintelligence and ability are fixed or variable qualities. Individuals with afixed mindsetbelieve that these characteristics are innate, fixed, and unchangeable. Those with agrowth outlook, then again, accept that these capacities can be created and fortified by method of duty and difficult work. Changing our Mindset I am watching various individuals in our Career Pivot people group change from a fixed to a development outlook. I like to state their viewpoints are growing. They currently consider alternatives to be conceivable that they recently observed as incomprehensible â€" or were totally careless that they were choices by any means. At the point when you see others getting things done and say to yourself, I can do that! â€" this is the point at which you begin to change your attitude. I realize that since moving to Mexico, my own mentality has moved drastically. I expounded on this previous this year in the post Becoming an Expat Has Dramatically Changed My Mindset At the point when you move from a fixed to a development outlook, our eagerness to face challenges shifts. Tune in to the latest scene Kinds of Risk We take a wide range of dangers consistently and we can be very unmindful of the perils and the chances. This is so evident in the quickly changing world we live in. How about we investigate the kinds of dangers that encompass us consistently. Vocation Risk The greater part of us see vocation chance as rolling out an improvement. Possibly we think about this as changing businesses or changing our vocation way, yet actually today, doing nothing is most likely a greater profession hazard. We indiscriminately feel that remaining on our present ways and taking the sheltered course is the least dangerous. Innovative demolition is unleashing ruin in such a large number of employment classes and enterprises that reasoning you can cover your head in the sand and overlook the progressions is likewise hazardous. You can peruse the article I composed for NextAvenue.org called When You're Working in a Career Disaster Area. In the event that you wish to moderate vocation hazard I propose you complete 3 things: Go to an industry meeting each year (you will presumably need to pay for it) Tune in to digital recordings to strengthen nonstop self-improvement Grasp internet learning In the event that you might want to find out additional, tune in to my digital recording scene Embrace Creative Destruction or Be a Turkey. You Choose! [Podcast] where I take you through my introduction by a similar name. Money related Risk A large portion of you who read this blog have survived 2 unpleasant downturns over the most recent 20 years. I am having an ever increasing number of individuals approach me who are in their 70s and need to come back to work since they dread coming up short on cash. A large number of these individuals resigned in the late 90s when it seemed a 10% profit for their speculations would be the standard. A typical subject I get notification from individuals about relieving hazard is to simply work longer. On the off chance that you've thought this, if you don't mind read the Propublica.org articleIf You're Over 50, Chances Are the Decision to Leave a Job Won't be Yours. Ideally, you can see that money related and vocation dangers are intently tied. Look at the New York Times article composed by my namesake Mark Miller of RetirementRevisedabout an individual from the Career Pivot Community who took this way. Actually the greater part of us need assistance to moderate money related dangers. We basically don't have the foggiest idea how much cash we need. We likewise don't have the foggiest idea how to transform that cash into a flood of salary. Our folks had annuities while the vast majority of us don't. Locate a monetary counselor who can help. I tune in to 2 web recordings on this point: Allworth Money Matters Podcast The Retirement Answer Man Wellbeing Risk Consistently, Fidelity distributes a gauge on what they anticipate social insurance will cost for those turning 65. On April 2, 2019, they distributed the accompanying: As per Fidelity, a 65-year old couple resigning in 2019 can hope to burn through $285,0001 in social insurance and clinical costs all through retirement, contrasted and $280,000 in 2018. For single retirees, the social insurance quote is $150,000 for ladies and $135,000 for men. Is it accurate to say that you are set up for that? Probably the greatest hazard you can take isn't getting ready to lose your organization paid health care coverage before you are Medicare-qualified. I recorded the approaching dangers in my post The Looming Healthcare and Insurance Catastrophe for Baby Boomers and what we are doing about it in my digital broadcast scene The Miller's Health Insurance and Healthcare Experiences in Mexico [Podcast]. Clearly, perhaps the greatest hazard you can take with your wellbeing isn't dealing with your own wellbeing. Since moving to Mexico, both my significant other and I have shed pounds and carry on with an a lot more advantageous way of life than we could possibly do in the U.S. The food we eat is ranch to table. Almost all that we eat is developed or created inside 100 miles with negligible preparing. I am persuaded the plant food framework in the United States is as a rule unfortunate for a long life. Danger In this day of every minute of every day news systems and online networking, we regularly see that our wellbeing is in danger more often than not. What began me down this way of examining hazard was the response I got when I came back to the United States in September. I was counseled on different occasions on the web and face to face about the hazard I was taking for living in Mexico. This overwhelmed me. At the point when we declared to loved ones that we were moving to Mexico, my child and girl in-law promptly began sending us U.S. State Department wellbeing admonitions about Mexico. Our child and little girl in-law work for the Navy and have high-trusted status. At the point when I sent them subtleties on precisely where we would be living and the course we would be driving, they quieted down and revealed to me we would be alright. I have worked in 40 unique nations and have been in an unlucky spot too often. My very own security and the wellbeing of everyone around me is essential to me. I get my work done about where I am going. The prior year we moved to Mexico we had our townhouse neighbor lease her apartment suite out to a street pharmacist. The townhouse complex is arranged only a mile or so from downtown Austin and is viewed as perhaps the most secure piece of the city. For 2 months, we had individuals you would not have any desire to connect with traveling every which way in our apartment suite complex. As an individual from the land owners' governing body, I worked with the police and others to get them expelled. None of this was my doing yet was the terrible conduct of my neighbor. (The apartment suite unit was totally destroyed following 2 months.) I was at an a lot higher danger of individual mischief during that time than I have ever experienced in Mexico. Do you comprehend the dangers you are taking? Are the individuals around you putting you in danger? What's Next In my next post, I need to talk about how we relieve dangers. The vast majority of us should keep on facing challenges and for a few of us, we currently have a more prominent readiness to face challenges in our lives. Have you changed your mentality about the dangers you are taking? Marc Miller Like what you simply read? Offer it with your companions utilizing the catches above. Like What You Read? How Recruiters Can Build a Candidate Data with an ATS - Workology

How Recruiters Can Build a Candidate Data with an ATS - Workology How to Recruiters Can Build a Candidate Database with Their Existing ATS Most recruiting and talent acquisition teams have a potential candidate gold mine waiting in the midst. It’s overlooked and under utilized because of technology functionality. However, the times are a changing. How to Recruiters Can Build a Candidate Database with Their Existing ATS I’m speaking of the candidates housed within your ATS. The old and cold list of candidates from job postings past who have previously applied for a job and experienced interest in your company. It’s time you dust those old candidates off and re-establish a relationship with them to fill your present and future positions at your company. There are a number of different technologies you can use to accomplish this task. Most are straightforward and simple focused on what I called proactive recruiting. Sweeten the Deal for Past Candidates Now a simple mass email in these situations won’t do. A bulk message inviting them to update their experience or contact information is boring. Entice them to re-connect with you for something that they need of value like a salary negotiation toolkit or a LinkedIn profile tip sheet. The challenge is that you need to direct those candidates to a destination where they add or update their skills and experiences in a dynamic environment that is flexible into what I consider a talent community. Download our jump start job search guide to give you inspiration on what a great job seeker downloadable can be.  Invite them into Your Network  A talent community is simply green room of sorts where candidates mingle, interact and prepare with your recruiting team before they get the big opportunity go out on stage. And by stage I mean interviewing with your company. The green room operates as a closed dynamic environment that is branded and built for candidates to learn about the organization and where recruiters can engage and use the platform to as a candidate relationship platform or CRM. Notes by recruiters are posted providing the next recruiter insights into the status, interest level and possible positions for the candidate. Keep in mind that a talent network is not a candidate database. Let me say that again. A talent network of community is not a candidate database.   .ai-rotate {position: relative;} .ai-rotate-hidden {visibility: hidden;} .ai-rotate-hidden-2 {position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;} .ai-list-data, .ai-ip-data, .ai-fallback, .ai-list-block {visibility: hidden; position: absolute; width: 50%; height: 1px; z-index: -9999;} Your network is the first place your talent acquisition teams logs in to source and engage candidates who have already been vetted and experienced serious interest in your company. In the old days, my talent network was essentially an Excel spreadsheet where I built a list of candidates who were interested in roles before they were open at my company. Maybe you used a notebook or three ringed binder to organize and store your candidate database. One HR technology company that does this well is Talent Circles. They offer a responsible platform that can be completely customized to the organization’s needs big or small. Because most ATS are storing thousands if not million of candidates. Imagine the possibilities if we could access and cultivate those relationships beyond the standard post and pray.  Customize Your Campaigns A simple mass email to candidates who have previously applied in most cases won’t convert a high rate. And by high rate I’m assuming that 50 percent of the 3-5 percent who actually opened and read the email you sent them. Three percent open rate is considered high in most marketing circles. You are missing an opportunity to engage another 97 percent of your ATS candidate database. By customizing campaigns you are able to tailor the message that’s unique and appealing to your audience. Dice has done a wonderful job of this with their job seekers by creating email campaigns using a technology that changes the message contained within the email based on when the received opens and reads your campaign. This ensures that if a candidate doesn’t open your email in time to attend the virtual job fair you are hosting that the email is still relevant and customized to them. What the candidate sees is an invitation to download the salary negotiation toolkit with no mention of last week’s virtual job fair. .ai-rotate {position: relative;} .ai-rotate-hidden {visibility: hidden;} .ai-rotate-hidden-2 {position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%;} .ai-list-data, .ai-ip-data, .ai-fallback, .ai-list-block {visibility: hidden; position: absolute; width: 50%; height: 1px; z-index: -9999;} Recruiting teams can take their efforts even further by using re-targeting technologies to re-engage past candidates using customized ads inviting them to re-engage. Companies like ReTargeter work with your ATS exported candidate email list. When a candidate logs into Amazon, Facebook or other website a cookie is activated. Your past candidates will begin seeing targeted ads to learn more about your company. Ever wonder why that shoe Nordstom ad follows you after visit their website? It’s called retargeting. You’re sitting on a gold mine in a locked box that is your ATS. By building a strategy that leverages your existing database focused on your long term recruiting efforts you can build momentum that will lend you greater success at a lower cost and time to fill your future job openings. Instruments, for example, Zoom, Notion, and Slack are turning into an ordinary installation in the cutting edge working environment. This, thusly, has prompted an ascent in specialized masters as associations take a stab at exploring new complexities, for example, lower profitability, expanding feelings of anxiety and more disarray (where the aim was clearness), related with these activities. As we head into 2020, the startup and corporate culture conflict will turn into a thing of the past, especially with regards to EX. We are as of now observing huge companies drawing nearer to that startup feel by offering cooler, more helpful working environments an enormous change contrasted with the conventional office condition of the past. On the other side, numerous new companies are moving quickly into the scaleup region, with a great many clients and several workers, and with this, they as well, are seeing another degree of convention required across correspondence and managerial frameworks. Hope to see these two customarily clashing societies unite and the rise of an 'worker first' culture, consolidating components of both, in 2020. At last, CSR approaches will likewise come into sharp concentration one year from now as businesses become compelled to give activities to a socially-cognizant age, while accomplices and customers additionally begin to offer conversation starters about CSR. As of now, 63% of Brits don't get whenever off for chipping in outlining there's plainly work to be finished. With this, tending to environmental change and helping the nearby network come top of the heap, and online stages, for example, Beam, the world's first crowdfunding system for destitute, will make it simpler than any time in recent memory to help them. Louise Jones, People Advisor at Perkbox, remarks: Regularly amidst everyday business and targets we neglect to stop and consider as managers what we will likely improve the worker experience of our organization. 6 Tips for Talking Politics at the Office

6 Tips for Talking Politics at the Office Sponsored by Workopolis: No matter how hard you try, politics are hard to ignore these days, and navigating tricky political talk has never been more fraught. According to a study by  VitalSmarts  co-founders Joseph Grenny and David Maxfield, nine out of 10 U.S. voters said the 2016 election was more polarizing and volatile than ever before â€" and it’s sad to say that things have only worsened since then.   The consensus has generally been to steer clear of politics and religion at the office, but how do you avoid talking about things that dominate the news? If we’re being realistic, politics will be a topic of discussion at some point, so it’s important to understand how you and your employees can avoid bitter debates with coworkers. Here are six tips on how to handle political talk at the office (and keep your sanity). 1. Always be diplomatic One of the most surprising findings from the VitalSmarts’ survey was that people were actually fine speaking to someone they disagreed with politically. The key, however, was in how that person spoke. If the discussion stays respectful â€" no matter how much you might disagree â€" it can be just that: a discussion. “Most of us think the only safe space to talk is with those who agree with us, and it’s just not true,” said Grenny. 2. Don’t conform When you’re surrounded by people of a certain political persuasion, it can be very tempting to take the path of least resistance. But when it comes to your own sanity (and job satisfaction), this isn’t a healthy long-term strategy. “A lot of people think being diplomatic is sugarcoating your opinions,” Grenny said. “But that’s not a meaningful conversation. 3. Seek out common ground As hard as it might be to believe, you might actually have some ideological common ground with Bob from accounting. Even if he’s on the complete opposite side of the political spectrum, there are always common threads that you can use to weave some understanding. “It’s totally possible two people with polar opposite positions have similar values,” Grenny said. “On immigration, maybe you both care about national security, and taking care of those with citizenship, and the disagreements are how we execute on those values.” 4. Forget about changing people’s minds The real problem spot when talking politics is assuming that you can convince other people to change their mind. Don’t forget that these are often more than just opinions â€" they are firmly held beliefs. By trying to “convert” people, you can come across as condescending and rude. “Give up the desire to proselytize to someone with a different opinion,” Grenny said. 5. Ask before dissenting It might seem strange, but simply asking if it’s ok to express a differing point of view can really go a long way.    â€œPeople feel psychologically different when they give permission to share our point of view.” Remember, though, that this goes both ways. If your co-worker is willing to listen to your point of view, return the favor. 6. Have a way out No matter how understanding and polite you are, the simple fact is that there’s always a chance a political discussion will get heated. Recognize that and plan ahead: make sure you have an escape route (what Grenny calls the “off-ramp”). “If it looks like it’s creating something that neither person wants, just stop. As soon as one of those signals occurs, say, ‘gosh, I think I’m getting a little too agitated, it looks like you’re not liking what you’re hearing from me, so let’s talk about the ball game.’ Then cut it off.” And if that doesn’t work, you could always change the subject (or start looking for another job!). On the Job by Anita Bruzzese Knowing When to Quit

On the Job by Anita Bruzzese Knowing When to Quit In his book, The Dip, author Seth Godin says that the first step to becoming the best in the world is realizing that quitting may be really important for your future success. While you may think this flies in the face of conventional wisdom that winners never quit and quitters never win, Godin says that quitting something that will not make you the best makes perfect sense. Superstars, he says, are the ones who know when to quit something that is a dead end and stay focused and motivated when it really counts. If youre considering quitting something, Godin says you should first ask yourself:1. Am I panicking? Quitting when youre panicked, he writes in his book, is dangerous and expensive. Why? Because the smartest move is to make the decision ahead of time that youre going to quit. When the pressure is the greatest to compromise, to drop out, or to settle, your desire to quit should be at its lowest, he says. The decision to quit is often made in the moment. But that exactly the wrong time to make such a critical decision.2. Who am I trying to influence? If youve got a boss who just wont let up on you, then youre probably considering quitting your job. If youre trying to influence just one person, persistence has its limits. Its easy to cross the line between demonstrating your commitment and being a pest. If you havent influenced him yet, it may very well be time to quit, Godin writes. One person will make up his mind and if youre going to succeed, youll have to change it. And changing someones mind is difficult, if not impossible.3. What sort of measurable progress am I making? On the job, youre either moving forward, standing still or falling behind. Godin says that if you decide to quit your job because youre not making progress, then you need to understand it doesnt mean youre quitting your quest to make a living or a difference or an impact. He says that youre not giving up because a job is just a tactic, a way to get you what you really want. He emphasizes that all those stories about authors who were turned down again and again and then became a mega-hit overnight with a bestseller are not stories about sticking it out in a dead-end, but rather the ability of these people to move through a market. Consider Godins observation: when was the last time you heard about someone who stuck with a dead-end job or a dead-end relationship or a dead-end sales prospect until suddenly, one day, the person at the other end said, Wow, I really admire your persistence; lets change our relationship for the better? It doesnt happen.

Why Your Business Payroll Systems Are More Important Than You Think -

Why Your Business Payroll Systems Are More Important Than You Think - Payroll is one of the building blocks of any business. It is an integral part of any business as it is responsible for employees’ salary compensation and plays a vital role in ensuring you are compliant with various legislations. All too often, business owners view business payroll as something that is merely a procession function and one of the mundane, tedious tasks that need to be done on a monthly basis. However, payroll systems have greater importance than just ensuring your employees are paid on time. It affects every aspect of your organisation, from the reputation of your business right down to your overall employee morale. In this article, we look at why your business payroll systems are more important than you think, so read on to find out more! Reallocation Of Resources Thanks to the introduction of Single Touch Payroll, time that used to be spent reporting employee paychecks to the ATO has greatly reduced. With the assistance of single touch payroll software, reports are automatically sent to the ATO on a paycheck to paycheck basis, thus freeing up time that can be allocated to other tasks that need to be done. Payroll software also assist a business in keeping accurate and comprehensive details of data that are accessible at the touch of a button. Online payroll software is also up to date with ATO requirements, ensuring that you are always compliant and never run the risk of getting into hot water. The overall shift to automated payroll systems frees up valuable time and resources for your team to focus on other aspects of the business. Ensure You Are Compliant With The ATO One of the biggest ways payroll can affect your business is if you are found to be non-compliant with the ATO. Some of the factors that may contribute to not being compliant not declaring fringe benefits, late payment of payroll taxes, accidentally or falsely claiming employees are contractors or freelancers and not registering when wages paid exceed your monthly threshold. When found to be non-compliant, your business may face significant consequences such as penalty fines which may greatly affect your overall cash flow for the rest of the year. This is why ensuring that you are on top of your game with your payroll system is absolutely essential failing to do so may very well make or break your business. Keeping Employee Morale High A critical aspect of the payroll system is its impact on the morale of your workforce. Employees need the reassurance that they are going to be paid on time, all the time. A late payroll may cause your workforce to question their worth and value in your organisation, on top of questioning your overall financial position as a business. An unhappy employee is one that becomes less motivated less efficient, thus resulting in underperformance and lacklustre behaviour. As we all know, employees are the backbone of any successful business this is why the payroll system is so important in ensuring that employee morale is always kept high. The efficiency and success of your business counts on it!  Uphold Your Company’s Reputation In addition to ensuring that your employees are paid on time, it is important that you keep up with your payroll in order to maintain your company’s reputation. As stated in our second point, failure to meet payroll regulations can result in hefty fines with the ATO. This can, in turn, tarnish your company’s reputation and make people wonder about your organisation’s reputation as a stable employer. Ensuring you are up to date with payroll and efficient with meeting your tax obligations is essential in preserving the good reputation of any business. We hope that this article has given you some insight into just how important payroll systems are for any successful business. One can catch a quick glimpse at a company’s overall financial stability simply by looking at its payroll process which is why every business owner should avoid overlooking it and instead ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll.
